Simple ways to take a break

Small pauses. Room to reset

  1. Eye eights

Watch the example, then trace a figure eight with your eyes on your own, keeping your head still. You do not need to look at the screen. Do 5 in one direction, then 5 in the other

  2. Look into the distance

Look at an object more than 6 metres away for 20 seconds. Look away from the screen; if that distance is unavailable, choose a distant object you can see

  3. Darkness

Close your eyes and gently cover them with your palms to make it dark. Do not press on your eyes. Sit like this for one minute, or stop earlier if you wish

  4. Close and open your eyes

Watch the example, then repeat on your own. You do not need to look at the screen. Close your eyes gently over 1 second, keep them closed for 4 seconds, then open over 1 second. Keep your eyes open for 1 second between repetitions. Repeat 10 times automatically — 69 seconds in total. Do not squeeze your eyelids or force your eyes open. Pause or stop if uncomfortable

Reminders

Off by default. Choose an interval from 20 to 60 minutes in 5-minute steps; the next reminder time is shown. Click a notification to choose an exercise or postpone it by 5, 15 or 30 minutes. After that, your chosen interval resumes. You can turn reminders off at any time. Chrome and system settings may delay or hide notifications
